Long Island Man Drove Drunk With Three Kids In Car, Police Say

A Long Island man is facing a host of charges after police say he drove drunk with three children in the car overnight.

Miguel A. Medina, 38, of Uniondale, was observed operating a 2016 gray colored Nissan Altima with a temporary Texas registration northbound in Oceanside on Long Beach Road on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2:20 a.m., Nassau County Police said.

Police observed the vehicle making unsafe lane changes, leading to a vehicle and traffic law stop on Long Beach Road and West Waukena Avenue. 

The investigation revealed there were four passengers in the vehicle: a 69-year-old woman in the front passenger seat and, in the rear seat, an 11-year-old boy and two girls, ages 3 and 5.

Medina was placed into custody. The children were released to a family member and the vehicle was impounded.

Medina was charged with the following:

  • three counts of DWI Leandra’s Law, 
  • two counts of DWI, 
  • three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, 
  • two counts of criminal contempt, 
  • aggravated unlicensed operation,
  • and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. 

Medina will be arraigned on Monday, Feb. 10 in First District Court in Hempstead.
